At the heart of true "crime" reforms must be restoration and there are no policies in effect currently that provide enough meaningful change, take substantial preventative measures, address the mental health and addiction components of criminal activity nor restore domestic tranquility and safety in our communities. We must demand better and collaboration can ensure the rebuilding of lives and communities. Bold initiatives to take correction facilities and create nurturing and empowering programs for at risk youth, individuals facing mental health and addiction issues, those trapped in the poverty/crime cycle, expanded access to mental health and addiction services, expanded, advanced work release programs in partnership with area industries, revamping of alternatives to incarceration programs, review of ALL incarcerated individuals sentences to reduce or eliminate prison time for crimes related to marijuana possession and other low level offenses, and a broader network of legal professionals to ensure expedited proceedings and encouraging outcomes while never compromising on public safety and victims rights are just the beginning of needed meaningful change with restoration of individuals, families and communities as the ultimate goal.
A half century since abortion's legalization, significant gaps in care exist particularly in our most marginalized communities with high rates of abortion pointing to inadequate access and/or utilization of pregnancy preventing contraceptives; a vision to place reproductive wellness centers for both men and women in every community will be a bold and desperately overdue initiative to provide short and long term contraceptive options, pre and post natal care to empower people to have fullest control over their bodies, their lives, and their futures. The greatest of care will be taken to ensure that data is gleaned from communities to assess where the greatest needs have presented themselves with regard to abortion services for pregnancies resulting from rape as well as for the heartbreaking realities of unsustainable pregnancies, profound birth defects and issues of unviability. We will ensure that women have access to specialists and support services to assist them during these difficult decisions and issues. This effort will operate in tandem with community resources to provide personal care products, diapers, formula, clothing and more to ensure that every family has the means to care for themselves and their little ones with dignity as we work together to elevate one another's existence above merely surviving and into thriving. Updates to state communication networks will be made to ensure that care is more seamless, accessible and qualitative than ever before as we elevated the standards for women's and men's health.
The housing crisis and issue of homelessness is one that needs immediate action and bold innovations. Putting the dream of home ownership into reality for New Yorkers is within reach as policies for freeing families from the shackles of housing insecurity are within reach. Policies including closing cost and down payment financing for our working families, tax free home purchase savings accounts, sweeping renovations of dilapidated properties while providing vocational training are just a few of the concepts that can put roofs over heads and hope into hearts of New Yorkers who have waited for real solutions to the provision of basic human needs for far too long. The state will offer online workshops to promote financial literacy, loan amortization understanding, household budgeting and more to empower our youth and adults to be prepared to take control of their destiny and ensure that their families always have their own house to come home to. We will work closely with public housing and create programs that ensure all properties meet the highest standards of safety, are adequately staffed with maintenance personnel, and provide residents with the security of living in a positive environment that they can be proud to call home.
Long overdue are efforts to minimize plastics and non biodegradable materials in packaging whereby reducing the strain on the environment; we will partner with industries to ensure that the mass consumables all New Yorkers utilize will be packaged in biodegradable materials so that the unnecessary pollution of our environment can be mitigate in real, tangible and substantial ways. In addition, we will make measurable changes in waste disposal as the damage being done to oceans as a result of garbage finding its way into that ecosystem is an irresponsible practice long overdue for complete change. We will partner to ensure large corporations engage in measures to begin to pull away from the obscene overuse of plastics. Renewable resources will be sought after like never before and will utilize the vastness of New York state to set an example to the Global community. Environmentally friendly manufacturing of goods In New York, FOR New York will become part of a vibrant vision to bring a social conscience to industries one significant step at a time to ensure our children have a planet to call home that is being cared for in a way that will impact future generations.
